Summary :
Printer | Cost | Black ink (# pages @ cost) | Color ink (# pages @ cost) |
---|---|---|---|
HP OfficeJet 5610 AIO | $100 | 450 @ $20 | 140 @ $18 |
HP LaserJet 2600N | $400 | 2,500 @ $75 | 2,000 @ $83 |
Xerox Phaser 6180N | $500 | 3,000 @ $90 | 2,000 @ $90 |
Basically, after about 3,500 color pages the OfficeJet and the LaserJet are at break-even on total cost (initial printer with consumables + color ink/toner supplies). The black break even is at 20,000 pages. The break even point for the DeskJet and Phaser is at 5,000 color pages. The black break even is at 29,000 pages. What's really nice about the lasers is that they can be fixed and hold more paper, plus have a higher duty cycle and need ink replaced less often.
Formula to compare cost : Printer Cost + (ROUNDUP(Total Pages / Pages per Ink) * Ink Cost)
