Before setting up the email client, you need to create the StarBand email accounts first. You can do this by clicking on the Email button at www.starband.net. (You can only access this web site from a PC going through StarBand's network.) You will need the customer's phone number and zip code that the installer gave StarBand to create a new account.
StarBand POP3 server : pop.starband.net
StarBand SMTP server : smtp.starband.net

The username for StarBand's email is the user's email address (i.e. user@starband.net). StarBand's SMTP (outgoing) mail server requires authentication. This usually requires some extra configuration in the email client or a registry entry for WinRoute if you are using WinRoute's mail forwarding.

If you are using Pegasus Mail, do the following :

  1. Go to File-Network Configuration.
  2. Click on the Sending (SMTP) tab.
  3. Under "Authentication", check the box next to "Login with username".
  4. Type in the StarBand email username (i.e. user@starband.net) and the StarBand email password.
  5. Click OK.

Or, you can use the WinRoute mail server with StarBand with a registry setting :

  1. Stop the WinRoute engine.
  2. Select the Start Menu and then Run. Type regedit.exe and click OK.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TinySoftware\WinRoute.
  4. On the right hand side, double click on MailRelayAuth and set it to 1.
  5. Set MailRelayUser to the StarBand email username (i.e. user@starband.net) and MailRelayPassword to the StarBand email password.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and start the WinRoute engine.
  7. You can now enable the WinRoute mail server and use smtp.starband.net as the relay server.
