Add a Server to IE Lockdown Trusted Sites

If you are using mapped drives on a Windows 2003 Server with Enhanced Security Configuration (IE Lockdown) enabled, you will need to add the server name that is sharing the drive to IE's trusted sites. More information on this is available at Adding Sites to the Enhanced Security Configuration Zones. If the server is enabled via Group Policy to "Use only machine settings" under "Computer\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer", you will need to import a registry file to make this change by following the procedure below.
  1. Download the trustedsite.zip file
  2. Unzip the file and edit trustedsite.reg
  3. Replace the text "servername" with the name of the server that is sharing the drive and save the file
  4. Double click on the trustedsite.reg file and answer Yes to the question about adding it to the registry
  5. Log off and log on again and the server should now be in the Internet Explorer "Trusted Sites" list
